ChemCentre showcases Sandalwood nut research at the International Conference on Food Analysis
27 Nov 2025

ChemCentre was proud to be represented at the International Conference on Food Analysis (ICFA) in Melbourne in late November, with Dr Manjree Agarwal presenting research on the utilisation and value-adding potential of Western Australian sandalwood nuts.

Dr Agarwal, Senior Research Scientist in ChemCentre’s Research & Innovation team, not only delivered a scientific presentation at the conference but also contributed as a member of the event’s organising committee, reflecting her leadership and standing within the food analysis and analytical chemistry community.

Her presentation highlighted a research project focused on sandalwood nut utilisation and pathways to value-adding opportunities within Western Australia’s sandalwood industry.

The work is a collaborative effort between ChemCentre, End Food Waste Australia, the Australian Sandalwood Network (ASN), Quest Biotech Pharma, Associate Professor Padraig Strappe from the Curtin Medical Research Institute and Associate Professor Lars Kamphuis from the Centre for Crop and Disease Management.

The project aims to explore new product development and commercial applications for sandalwood nuts, supporting circular economy outcomes and potential market diversification for the state’s primary industries.

The ICFA conference brings together analytical chemists, researchers, industry professionals and regulatory experts with a shared interest in food safety, emerging analytical techniques, risk management, policy development and stakeholder engagement in a global context.

ChemCentre’s participation reinforces its role in supporting innovation, industry partnerships and science-based solutions for Western Australia.
