Common Tests and Pricing

The most common test requested by beekeepers includes a Nutritional Panel Suite as included in the price list or TA (Total antimicrobial activity). The TA refers to the bacteria-killing scale; the higher the TA the greater the antimicrobial strength. The antibacterial activity of honey is derived from natural enzymes and chemicals in the honey. This is important for beekeepers as a higher TA means that the honey can be marketed at a higher price.

Sampling

The samples should include unique description names. Please subsample carefully from your bulk container. We suggest multiple (6 minimum), small subsamples (30-50g) from various positions within the container, to give a representative 200-250g sample that is supplied to the laboratory. Please note that the activity of honey is heat sensitive, so the temperature should be kept below 30ºC.

Please note that we can only test Western Australian honey due to the State's biosecurity restrictions.

Sample Submission Times

Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 4:30pm (excluding public holidays).

Please download and complete the Request for Analysis form and submit it when submitting your samples for analysis.

Results & Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is around 10-20 working days, depending on the scope of testing. Results will be emailed once payment is made and testing is completed.

Price List

Prices for common tests are below:

1 sample of honey for TA = $311.30 incl. GST

1 sample of honey for MGO and/or HMF = $238.70 incl. GST

1 sample of honey for Nutritional Label testing = $306.46 incl. GST

Please feel free to contact us if you require pricing for any other parameters.

To avoid any delays in sample analysis, prepayment is required at the time of sample submission.

For other analyses (for example, other heavy metals, pesticides etc.), specific sampling requirements may be necessary. Please discuss this with a ChemCentre scientist prior to sample collection. There is a minimum charge of $220 (including GST). Contact us today to discuss your requirements.
