Toxicology services to coroners and police

Toxicology testing equipmentChemCentre's Toxicology Section provides full forensic toxicology services to coroners and the police.

Examinations undertaken for coroners are designed to establish the presence or absence of drugs, alcohol or poisons in autopsy specimens and if present, their concentration. Our findings assist coroners to determine the role that these substances may have played in sudden or unexplained deaths.

Analysis of blood and urine specimens from drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs are carried out for police involved in traffic law enforcement. Biological exhibits and other miscellaneous items are also examined in connection with serious criminal assaults and suspected drink spiking incidents.

Police road safety programs are supported by the provision of standard alcohol solutions for breath testing instrument calibration. And we also provide a wide range of toxicology consultancy including interpretation of results and provision of expert testimony to courts and tribunals.

The Section also undertakes confirmations for drugs in the workplace programs for both the public and private Sectors. We currently hold NATA Forensic Accreditation specifically for the confirmation of drugs in oral fluids to AS4760-2006 and drugs in urine to ASNZS4308-2008.
