Combating the use and manufacture of illicit drugs
Our Illicit Drugs Section provides scientific support to police and other government agencies responsible for combating the use and manufacture of illicit drugs.
We are involved in a wide range of activities including:
- Identification and analysis of illicit drug seizures and related substances
- Investigation of clandestine drug laboratories
- Collection and provision of drug intelligence information to police investigators
- Comparison and profiling of drug seizures to help prosecute conspiracy cases and develop intelligence on drug movement and trafficking
- Training police officers in clandestine laboratory investigation techniques
- Participation in national drug strategy functions
- Advising police and government agencies on issues related to materials for illicit drug manufacture
- Giving evidence in court trials
Members of our Clandestine Laboratory Investigation Team also form the core of ChemCentre's Emergency Response Team for chemical and radiological emergencies.
