All foods sold in Australia must carry a nutritional panel on the label to allow consumers to wisely select the food that they are purchasing.
The nutritional label covers the basic food ingredients that are present in foods together with values for energy (in KJ), protein, total fat, saturated and unsaturated fats, carbohydrate and sugars and sodium.
The values are expressed as the average quantity per serving and the average quantity per 100g of the food.
Food regulations are always being upgraded by FSANZ and Commonwealth and State Governments to incorporate the concerns and safety of the Australian and Western Australian population.
