Biodiscovery and Plant Phytochemistry
ChemCentre's natural products chemists and organic analytical chemists can provide a range of services in the area of biodiscovery and plant phytochemistry.
We conduct collaborative research work with universities, industries, government departments and the Western Australian Marine Science institution.
ChemCentre is fully equipped with modern instruments including GC/MS (six), LC/MS (three), HPLCs (analytical and preparative), CZE, Bioanalysers and GC/ICP.
We are able to analyse plant material for the following:
Metabolic profiles (fatty acid, amino acids, sugars, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides)
Secondary metabolic profiles
Fatty acids, alkaloids, phemolics, polyphenolics (tannins and anthocyanins), flavanoids, coumarins, terpenoids, steroids, Essential oils and volatile compounds, Phytic acid and trypsin/chymotrypsin inhibitor activity.
ChemCentre can also assist with the isolation of biological active material from plants, bacteria, microbial, insects and marine materials. These isolated materials can be screened for drug activity through ChemCentre's close association with WMIR.
We can also undertake the purification and characterisation of any natural products that show biological activity. This area of research is related to crop protection discovery, human health discovery, animal health discovery, drug discovery and alternative product development.
ChemCentre offers knowledge, consultancy and expertise in the areas of organic and inorganic chemistry, animal and fish nutrition, wood chemistry, plant nutrition, natural product chemistry and organic analytical chemistry.
