Comprehensive services in physical evidence for the Police
ChemCentre delivers physical evidence services to the Police including the recovery, identification and comparison of microscopic amounts of materials submitted in connection with crimes. Physical Evidence is important in aiding Police investigations and providing evidence to the WA judiciary system.
Our scientists use a suite of modern instruments to examine a wide variety of manufactured materials including fire accelerant residues, explosive residues, gunshot residues, glass particles, paint scrapings and textile fibres.
Our laboratory is NATA-accredited under the forensic chemistry criminalistics classification and our scientists are trained in specific method areas. They also provide expert testimony in court when required.
Various research projects are undertaken in the laboratory. These projects include introducing new technologies to casework and surveys to help establish the frequency of occurrence of certain evidence types in the urban environment.
