“Previously, the scholarship has only been open to science students majoring in chemistry,” Peter said. “This year, mass communications or marketing students will also be considered, to attract greater interest in the scholarship.”
The ChemCentre Indigenous Student Scholarship provides $10 000 per year for the three-year expected duration of a bachelor degree course in science, communications, marketing or media, with payments made after the census date of each semester.
“The Indigenous Scholarship is part of ChemCentre’s commitment to cultural diversity within the workplace, while also fulfilling our obligations to STEM education and science outreach,” Peter said.
“We understand that it’s not always easy for people to support themselves through a university degree. This scholarship is a way for ChemCentre to make a difference, one student at a time. The money can be spent in any way that supports the recipient’s study, but is contingent on full-time enrolment and satisfactory performance.
“Where possible, we will also provide a mentor, giving the student a unique connection and insight into the business world and ChemCentre, while assisting their choice of career path or discipline.”
