Holly Yu and her explosive presentations

Date Published: 29-Apr-16

Congratulations to Curtin University student Holly Yu, who was awarded Second Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the 3rd Scottish Student Forensic Research Symposium held at the University of Glasgow.
Holly is a student within the Nanochemistry Research Institute and Department of Chemistry, principally supervised by Professor Simon Lewis. Her research on the recovery of explosive residues is in collaboration with ChemCentre; David Detata, Team Leader of Physical Evidence in the Forensic Science Laboratory, is a joint PhD supervisor. Holly is working on two journal papers with David as a co-author.

Holly regularly wins awards when she presents at conferences – just last December she was awarded joint best poster prize at the 23rd Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) Research & Development Topics in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry conference, which was held at University of Melbourne. Last year she was also awarded First Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the 2nd Scottish Student Forensic Research Symposium held last year at the University of Dundee. She has also been awarded an ANZFSS (Australia New Zealand Forensic Science Society) Travel Award to attend the ANZFSS International Symposium on the Forensic Sciences in Auckland later this year. Well done Holly!
